Who are you designing for?
I'm designing for the creatures of the night. In our 'final collection of the user' you can see that we decided to focus on night bus passengers. This night bus is created for people who want to party, because the bus is only riding on Friday- and Saturday-night. We divided those party people on the night bus into different types: Back seat lover, (silent) sleeper, the overexcited, the entertainers, the over-dressed and the fastfood lovers.

What is their relationship to the collection?
You can find the whole collection in and around Rotterdam. The night bus is also riding in and around Rotterdam. This means that the people can be connected because of the place.

Which content are you interfacing?
The aim of BKOR is among other things to bring attention to the special collection of artworks in the public space of Rotterdam. So the content I will be interfacing needs to attract party people. I think this group is not very interested in the art in the public space. They probably don't even notice it. That's why I want to show them a different look on the art. A glimpse into the experience of the other and more insight into their own imagination.

PREPERATIONS
What type of interaction is fitting for this?
In our conclusion is written: "What makes all these people similar and connects them all is that they all want to have fun". So the interaction needs to give the party passenger fun.

What type of medium is fitting for this?
It is night, so it needs to be something they can do in the bus while they are waiting to arrive at their destination. Or it needs to be something they can do the next morning. To detox from their alcohol for example or so they can chill during their hangover.
It's also important that they don't have to put in too much effort, as the target audience is easily distracted. I think downloading an app is already to much..

In general: what are you trying to accomplish through the interface you want to design?
I want the user group to notice the public art of Rotterdam, maybe even learn them something about it.

Which visual design elements have you already collected/designed that can be useful for this?

LESSON TWO
FEEDBACK RESEARCH
Your choice of the night bus as an interface is very sharp and promising. In particular the early sketch where hands touch each other though the bus windows helped to set the tone of the research, as was the description of the night bus as potentially “more social, more interactive than a daytime bus”.

The user subtypes you defined as night bus passengers (backseat lover, sleeper, overexcited troublemaker, entertainers, fast food lovers) show that your research is empathic, humorous and non-judgemental.

Exploring the BKOR logo as a formal source for your Venn diagram: good move and worth exploring further as a method. What other visual cues could you find in the artworks and in the night bus themselves?

Defining the 27 artworks over the two longer night bus routes calls for a next step in which more clarity and more depth is added: for instance groupings, categories, themes, narratives. Try to connect them to the passenger subtypes.

Even when lighthearted or humorous, art is an experience of a certain depth.Try to avoid creating an ‘easy’ consumer experience, as tourist routes often are.
Side note: I have looked deeper into the collection. You can find this new research on the bottom of the research page.

Feedback on the designs: Maybe it is a bit to confusing. Especially because of the colors.

PROCESS FONT
I want to use helvetica as font for the main tekst, because this is the font BKOR is using for their website
>>>
Some possible fonts I found on the internet.
Some tryouts I did with the helvetica fonts. I want it to look more dissy / drunk.
I like this last one because the helvetica font is still the "leader" of the text. But the background letters make it look like you are drunk.

I also tried it with the Olopus font. But I like the Helvetica font better, because that is better matching.

2 CONCEPTS
CONCEPT #1
One of the goals of BKOR is to get more insight into you own imagination and to get a glimpse into the experience of the other. My user-group exists of party people who are taking the night bus to get home. During the group research we devided this user group into different subtypes. For now I chose to focus on the backseat lover, sleeper, entertainer and fast food lover.

In the bus there will be a card display rank with cards of BKOR in it. On the front of this card you can see an image of one of the artworks, but on the spot of the artwork you will find an empty space. The user group can draw their own art on that spot to get an insight into their own imagination. There is also a QR-code on it, which you can scan to draw your art online (cause no one has a pencil with them…).
If you have made your artwork online, then you can add it to the gallery. This gallery is showing a new collection of all the art drawings made by different people. In this way everyone can experience how other people see the art.

On the back of the card there will be a little story written, which is focussing on the different subtypes. The artwork in front of the card is also connected to the little story and different subtypes.
CONCEPT #2
This concept is more focussing on giving the user group background information about the art. I want to make 6 different tour guides. Each tour guide is focussing on a different subtype. You can find the new collections I made for this on the bottom of my research page. I wanted to make this tour guide on the paper of newspapers, because this is cheap. In this way the user group also understands that they can take it for free.
Note: this concept is a mix of idea 1, 6 and 9 of the 10 sketches.
First I wanted to choose the art which the bus is passing (just like how we those our collection in 'mapping the collection'). But the same bus is not always driving the same route. For example, in the beginning of the night bus 1 was driving route B3 but after a while this bus had to change to route B12 (because of schedules) .

PROCESS OF THE CARD DESIGN
This is the final card I made. > > >
Here is the process of the card design. From the first card I made until the last one. > > >
Feedback on the designs (Megan): How are you so sure that the fast-food lover will take this card and not another one? Maybe you can use some design elements in the card, which are loved by the fast food lover. For example use the colors red and yellow, because this is fitting with McDonalds.
^
^
^
I have changed the colors to yellow and red. A lot of fastfood restaurants use red. I have used the red color BKOR is also using in their designs.
After Maytal her feedback and testing my project, I found out that it is not clear enough that it is about a coloring page. I can make this more clear by changing the text and/or change something about the design.

Here is the process of the card design. From the first card I made until the last one. > > >
I have used dark blue because of the sky in the night.
Pink is the color of love. I didn't chose red, because that was to heavy. Pink is softer.
I wanted something notable. By using two opposite colors you can do that. I feel like purple is saying: look at me I am different (orange is the opposite of that).
I think only changing the text is not enough.
Now it is more a coloring page, but it is to general now and not focused enough on the fastfood lover.
It doesn't feel like a coloring page anymore.
Also not really fastfood lover
This is more a fast food lover vibe. But maybe not good for a coloring page? And how can I change the style of the sleeper, back seat lover and entertainer (fast food lover is easy)
Feedback on the designs (Kimmy): Maybe you can change the style of the back of the card.

Problem: How can I make it a coloring page AND make it attractive for the subtypes?

FINAL PRESENTATION
FINAL CARD DESIGN
FIRST WEBSITE DESING
This are the first pages I made for the website. It wasn't really working, so I decided to finish my postcards first.
After I finished the cards, I made this design.

You can also scan the QR-code to see the Adobe XD website on your phone. (Or click here to see it on your laptop).
After testing I found out that my design was not clear enough. People didn't understand right away it was about a coloring page. So I changed the design and also the website.
FINAL WEBSITE DESIGN
SECOND WEBSITE DESING
After the feedback I made a new design. This is the end result in Adobe XD. You can also scan the QR-code to take a closer look. (Or click here to see the website on your laptop).
